The global aerospace and defense sector is growing rapidly, but its ability to scale up is under increasing pressure due to a structural shortage of technical talent. This is according to *Mission 2030: Closing Tech Talent Gaps in Aerospace & Defense*, a new international report by Experis and ManpowerGroup.

Gen Z most likely to leave current job within six months

Almost half of Gen Z in the Netherlands are considering quitting their jobs within six months, according to ManpowerGroup's Global Talent Barometer. Nevertheless, the Netherlands scores relatively high on job satisfaction within Europe (67%). ManpowerGroup calls on employers to better respond to the needs of young talent.

Employment outlook in the Netherlands remains positive

More than a quarter of employers in the Netherlands (28%) expect to hire more staff in the last quarter of 2025. This is according to the ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey (MEOS), a survey conducted by ManpowerGroup in 41 countries among 39,449 employers, including 524 in the Netherlands. Although the employment outlook remains positive, it has declined by two percentage points compared to Q3 2025 and by the same amount compared to the last quarter of 2024.

The Netherlands has the strongest employment outlook in Europe

In the first quarter of 2026, no less than 36 per cent of employers expect to hire more staff. This gives the Netherlands the highest employment outlook in Europe. This is an increase of eight percentage points compared to Q4 2025 and six percentage points higher than in the same period last year.

Employees are on the move: more than half are looking for another job

More and more Dutch employees are cautiously looking beyond their current jobs. More than half (53%) are actively exploring new opportunities, mainly driven by the desire for higher income growth and better career prospects. At the same time, a significant group feels uncertain: 29 per cent expect to lose their job in the short term. This is according to the Global Talent Barometer from ManpowerGroup Netherlands. Although average job satisfaction remains stable at 67 per cent, the results clearly show that the risk of turnover and dropout is not widespread, but is mainly concentrated among specific groups in the labour market.
